Celtic Faire in March? Renaissance faire in September? What gives?!?

You may have heard about our other event, The Calaveras Celtic Faire. The Celtic Faire takes place at the same grounds as the Jousting Championships, but is a separate event entirely. We encourage you to visit both! Check out the website for the Calaveras Celtic Faire.

It's difficult to describe the events or even compare them to other events. Personally I think this is because We started this to have fun - it's like throwing a party for 10,000 friends. We try not to constrain ourselves into a single mold - if we think something would be cool at our party, then we go out and get it. For example, many renaissance faires don't have much live music, but we enjoy the music so we hired John Allan, Culann's Hounds, the Black Irish Band, and Tempest. Similarly, most Celtic faires or highland games don't have a renaissance village with knights and over 1000 costumed reenactors - but ours does. If I had to compare our two events, I'd say the March Celtic Faire is a Celtic music festival with a great renaissance faire, while the September Jousting Championships is a great renaissance faire and a unique jousting competition, with great music. Both events have food and drink, vendors with clothing, swords and armor, jewelry and music. They're both family friendly and provide a full weekend of entertainment in the beautiful foothills.

The Jousting Championships, held every September, is a renaissance faire and heavy armor jousting competition. It is one of the only events in the United States where you can see real competition jousting, not just a choreographed dinner show. The best jousters in the country and internationally come to compete for prestige and a cash purse. It's a mostly outdoor event - it's a renaissance faire. The event has an outdoor music stage plus several stages for renaissance stage acts - jugglers, magicians, fire eaters.

The Celtic Faire, held every March, highlights Celtic Music with music on two indoor main stages and a pub stage. The faire features the biggest names in Celtic music with past headliners reading like a who's-who of Celtic Music - names like Brother, Dervish, Danu, Teada, Give Way, Tempest, Wicked Tinkers, Culann's Hounds and many, many, others. Outdoors the event features a renaissance village, S.A.A.A. highland games, and demonstration jousting.
